Soto del Real: residential estates at the foot of the sierra
Soto del Real has grown a great deal with estates of detached houses around the old centre, and many of its residents work in Madrid or in the north of the region. It lies between Colmenar Viejo, Manzanares el Real and Miraflores de la Sierra, within the Parque Regional de la Cuenca Alta del Manzanares (a regional park), with the Sierra de Guadarrama as a backdrop.
Towards the airport, the natural route goes through Colmenar Viejo to take the M-607 towards Madrid and link up from there with the roads into Barajas. Many residents drive this route every day; but for a trip with suitcases, and without leaving the car at the airport for days, a fixed-price taxi is more comfortable.
