Navacerrada: the village, not just the pass
Many people associate the name with the mountain pass, but the municipality of Navacerrada is a village with a life of its own at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama, with its traditional centre and numerous estates and detached houses around it. Nearby is the Navacerrada reservoir and, higher up, the National Park. That mix of year-round residents and weekend homes means airport trips are concentrated in the holidays, long weekends and on Sunday afternoons.
The natural road is the M-601, which runs down from Navacerrada towards Collado Villalba, where the taxi takes the A-6 towards Madrid and the airport. With a fixed price, it makes no difference if that descent is packed with cars on a Sunday: you pay the same.
